What is Your Optimum Health Potential?
Optimum Health Potential refers to your body’s ability to heal itself and be healthy. Without sounding too “out there”, every body has an Innate Life Force that flows throughout the body to allow it to function at its optimum level. This Life Force, which distinguishes a living body from a dead one, has the function of doing only the right things for the body to allow it to always be healthy and perform optimally.
The nervous system is the “wiring” that this Life Force flows through to allow the Brain and the rest of the body’s cells, tissues and organs to work in unison with each other. Messages flow from the Brain, down the spinal cord, and through the peripheral nerves to supply the structures that make up the body. If the messages can flow from the Brain to the rest of the Body and then can be sent back from the Body to the Brain again, then that Body is said to be healthy as the communication lines are clear. These can be simple: messages to the biceps can cause contraction of that muscle to bend the elbow. Or these messages can be complex: messages to the digestive system can coordinate and control the process of digesting and absorbing the nutrition from today’s lunch. As these examples of function occur, bear in mind that the Body still has to: breathe, balance, fight off diseases, think, plan for the future and conduct a multitude of other functions all at the same time! It is truly a “busy Body”.
If there’s a misaligned vertebra or a pinched nerve, which Chiropractors call a Subluxation, the messages flowing through that region can be slowed, altered and changed. Clearly, this distortion caused by the pressure on the nerve alters the proper messages and stops that Body from healing itself and being completely healthy. These subluxations can exist in the Body for a long period of time without causing any symptoms, so the Body is not aware that it is there in the spine.
As it exists in the body without causing symptoms, subluxations stop the body from working at 100%. The Body is not aware of their existence and plods along at less than its optimum potential. Symptoms only occur when the subluxations themselves has caused enough change or damage that the Body finally becomes aware that something has gone wrong. Like the toothache that occurs after a small hole in the tooth has enlarged enough to irritate the nerves, or the heart attack that occurs once the thin plaque of cholesterol lining the heart arteries has thickened to completely block the blood flow to the heart muscles, so too does the back pain, neck pain, headaches, altered digestion, altered toilet habits and other symptoms result from the long existence of subluxations in the spine.
The job of the Chiropractor is simple: find and remove the subluxations wherever they occur in the spine through Spinal Adjustments. By removing subluxations, the messages to and from the Brain return to the clarity and speed that the Life Force requires to resume its work of letting the Body function at its optimum.
Oftentimes, when a patient undergoes Chiropractic care, he or she notices an improvement of the symptoms that they first came in with, along with positive changes to their digestion, sleep quality and overall wellbeing. This phenomenon occurs when the Body achieves a restoration of its Life Force’s normal function; here re-iterated again as allowing the Body to function at its Optimum, always.
Life is best experienced when you are functioning at your Optimum. That way, you can engage all of your senses and your whole being to perform at the best possible level.
